Why we have cancelled programs

Download Acrobat Reader (R) for FREE from Adobe's web site.

This is used for many of York Parks and Recreation's downloadable documents

You may register by mail, or you may register by phone with a Visa or MasterCard.

In order to provide better service to our participants, we have included a mail-in registration form for some of our programs.

Please Note: Nothing hurts a recreation program faster than participants who wait until the last minute to register. Please pay close attention to the registration dates.

To register yourself or your child through the mail for a program, you must use the registration form provided. Please fully complete the participant and responsible party information. Indicate the programs you wish to register for and include include your payment method to York Parks and Recreation for the total amount due.

We do not send or call with confirmations. Consider yourself or your children enrolled in the program of your choice when you send in a completed registration form and payment.

We will notify you if the class has been filled, canceled, or changed. The York Parks and Recreation Department reserves the right to cancel or consolidate any program that does not meet minimum registration numbers. No refunds will be given after the activity begins. Complete refunds will be given if the Parks and Recreation Department cancels the program.

We would like all program participants to be advised that the York School Department has priority over all school facilities. This, on occasion, may cause recreation programs to be canceled. We will make every effort to avoid this, however, should it occur, we will do our best to notify program participants in advance. All canceled programs will be rescheduled if possible.

WAIVER

All persons participating in Parks and Recreation Department sponsored programs and activities do so at their own risk and without recourse to the Town of York, its agents, officers or employees.

Pictures: We randomly choose pictures of adults and children who participate in our programs to be printed in our publications or sent out to area papers. Please notify us if you do not wish to have your picture published.

York Community Service Association in conjunction with the York Parks and Recreation Department and York Hospital offers a scholarship program for needy children. These scholarships are available to serve our core programs and do not include special events. Families needing assistance should pick up a scholarship application at the Parks and Recreation office. All requests are confidential. No child in our community is ever turned away from participating in our core programs; however, over the past year our scholarship program has tripled. If you would like to help support our Scholarship efforts by making a contribution, please contact the office at 363-1040.

The Parks and Recreation Department is responsible for managing and maintaining our public beaches. Our goal is to provide a safe, clean, family environment for residents and visitors alike. Like our parks there are ordinances governing certain activities and simple rules and policies to oversee others. Generally speaking the Town has a fairly strong recreation philosophy with respect to permitted uses. Dogs are allowed on the beach during certain times, surfing is allowed in designated areas, and volleyball, bocci ball, and sand castle building, to name a few, are typical. We encourage you to enjoy our beaches and when participating in these activities respect the rights of others.

LATE REGISTRATIONS

There is a deadline date for sign-ups on our programs to allow us the time to organize teams and schedule leagues. There will be a $10.00 late fee per child for late registration. We hope this will encourage you to sign up early, as registrations will only be accepted, after the deadline date, if room permits.

WHY WE HAVE CANCELLED PROGRAMS

Nothing kills a program quicker than waiting until the last minute to register. Last year we cancelled wrestling four days before the program was to begin for lack of interest. We then received numerous requests to register for this program; however, at that point it was too late. Don’t let this happen to you!

SWIMMING LESSON REGISTRATIONS

Will be taken at York Parks and Recreation Office, Route 1, Grant House/Goodrich Park, York, ME 03909. Resident registrations must be done in person on registration day. Telephone registrations will be accepted the day following registration day. Non resident registrations will be accepted the following Mondays.

You may register by mail, or you may register by phone with a Visa or MasterCard. Mail in registrations will not be entered until after registration day in the order they were received.

We would also like to recognize the largest contributors to this year's fireworks, the York Beach Fire Department and the Union Bluff Hotel. We extend heartfelt thanks to Chief David Bridges and Brent Merritt for overwhelming generosity and faithful support.
