impaKt Sports and the York Parks and Recreation Department presents. . .Flag Football Leagues
Grades 5 8 - Middle School level programs
Considered by many as the skills version of American Football, Flag Football is a version of American Football that is popular across the U.S. The basic rules of the game are similar to those of the professional game, but instead of tackling players to the ground, the defensive team must remove a flag or flag belt from the ball carrier ("de-flagging") to end a down. Players wear a belt with flags around the waist. The only contact is above the waist blocking at the line of scrimmage. Like touch football, flag football was designed in an effort to minimize injuries that playing tackle football could bring. Our emphasis is on fun and friendly competition, as well as an opportunity for kids to practice the “skill” portions of the game.
Depending upon numbers, we will look to create balanced teams, which compete each week. Fun, fitness and skill development are the themes. The atmosphere is welcoming and friendly, as is the play. Each week will begin with 15-20 minutes of warm-up featuring dynamic stretching followed by game play. Dynamic stretching focuses on “limbering” the body during athletic movements. It is an effective means of preparing the body for athletic play.
INSTRUCTOR: Kirk Butterfield of Impakt Sports and others (depending on numbers).

Children’s Golf League
The Ledges Golf Course
Grades 5 - 8
Children’s golf is an extremely popular part of our program, so this year we are offering a golf league for students in grades 5 8 at the Ledges Golf Course on Route 91. We chose this course after the kids in our Seacoast Tour overwhelmingly picked the Ledges as a favorite course, albeit a little difficult. This league is designed to give junior players the opportunity to play nine holes once a week, with players their own age for 6 weeks. Points will be accumulated each week for such things as shooting par, low number of puts, bogies, etc. The league will culminate with a get together immediately following your last round at the Ledges with good food, prizes and raffles.
Although you don’t have to be a scratch golfer or even have a handicap to join the league, COURSE EXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED. Players will be expected to keep a score card. Cards will be collected at the end of each round so that points can be issued. An overview of rules and etiquette expectations will be made available to all participants prior to the first round of golf play.

Healthy Hometowns Cross Country Ski Program Don’t Miss out!!! For Children Ages 8 Adult
(There is a limited amount of equipment available for younger children)
Many people choose to live in Maine for the healthy, safe lifestyle we're able to enjoy here. Contrary to the image of our state, however, Maine is ranked at, or near the top of the nation for the incidence of childhood obesity, childhood type II diabetes, childhood smoking and asthma. Alcohol and drug use among middle school and high school populations have reached alarming levels as well. If we are to make a difference in the lives of Maine's children, we must commit to the hard work of being there for them on a daily basis, identify the barriers they face in living healthy lives and address each of them in sustainable, practical and effective ways.
Through the Healthy Hometowns Ski Program, Maine Winter Sports Center is already making a difference in the lives of thousands of Maine children.
So let’s make a difference and take it outside!
With the help of the Healthy Hometown ski program and the Maine Winter Sports Center, you can rent cross country boots, skis and poles for the season. On November 19th at 5:00pm at the Grant House we will have a sizing night for all those people interested in renting equipment. The Equipment will then become available for you to pick up at the Grant House sometime around Mid December and you get to keep it for the entire season. STORY WALK™ York
at Mt. Agamenticus
Can you exercise and read with your family at the same time? YES! Combining physical activity and literacy may seem like an odd mix but thanks to the brainstorm of Anne Ferguson, in conjunction with the Kellogg-Hubbard Library in Montpelier, VT. Story Walk™ has taken off and is sweeping Vermont, New Hampshire and now York. We are excited to be continuing this self-guided fitness element in our recreation line-up. The Story Walk™ program combines the benefits of physical activity, time outdoors in nature, literacy and family time by taking children’s books and posting them, in pieces, along a recreational path or hiking trail. What better place for a Story Walk™ than the scenic vistas, rich forests and secluded trails of Mount Agamenticus?
Join us throughout the fall as we present In A Nutshell by Joseph Anthony along the Ring trail. Be sure to look for the sign letting you know that your Story Walk™ is about to begin and follow the story as it guides you to the summit of Mt. A. Please be sure to let us know about your experience in our visitor journal at the end of your hike. Enjoy!
The Ring Trail is a family friendly hiking trail. You should plan to wear comfortable shoes/sneakers with support. Flip flops and crocs might not be the best choice here.

Pee Wee Wrestling
For Children in Grades K 5
We are so fortunate to have Charlie Caramihalis coaching this program for us! Charlie has years of coaching and wrestling experience and expertise, so don’t miss out on this opportunity. Join us as we begin another year of peewee wrestling. We will be heading up this program for children in grades Kindergarten 5 on Tuesdays and Thursdays, beginning January 5th. Peewee wrestlers will practice basic fundamentals in the multi purpose room at the York Middle School. Sundays, the participants can take part in meets at various locations in Southern Maine and New Hampshire. Tournament fees which range from $7.00 to $12.00 per tournament depending upon site are paid for by parents. Parents are also required to provide transportation to and from the tournament sites.
K-3 Description
Program focuses on fundamentals of folk style wrestling. Participants will learn basic wrestling moves from the three starting positions of neutral, offense, and defense. Team approach, good sportsmanship, and agility building games are stressed.
K-3 wrestlers should wear shorts, tee-shirt, sneakers or wrestling boots. As there will be no tournament competition, there are no uniform requirements.
Grades 4/5 Description
Program focuses on folk style wrestling and basic wrestling moves from the three starting positions in a highly structured environment. Program is designed for those wishing to compete in Pee Wee Wrestling tournaments throughout Southern Maine which are typically held on Sundays. Although wrestlers are not required to participate in these tournaments, they are expected to be attentive during practices and focus on drills which promote proper wrestling technique.
Grade 4-5 wrestlers should purchase wrestling boots available at sporting goods stores. Although uniforms are not required to compete, most wrestlers like to purchase their own. These can be purchased at most tournament sites from vendors who sell these as well as boots, headgear, etc. Wrestlers may practice in uniforms or shorts, tee-shirts, wrestling boots, and white socks.
Coaches will choose only those tournaments they feel are appropriate for the team to attend and will coach each wrestler when it is their time to compete.
We will be offering a parents meeting on Wednesday, December 9th, at the York High School Commons at 4:30pm. This is your opportunity to meet Coach Caramahalis and ask any questions you may have. We strongly recommend that you try to make this meeting. There will be a varsity meet after the meeting and you are encouraged to bring your child to watch.

A wonderful idea for Holiday gift-giving (grandparents love ‘em!) or for serving up Santa’s cookies. We’ll walk you through the project with complete stepby-step instructions. When completed, Naked Plates will kiln fire your plate and return your finished piece to us. Music and Movement
Grades K - 2
A class for new interpreters of the world through self-expression. There are many dance programs in town, for the choreographed, structured dancer. This class is more for the interpretive, budding artist, the one who dances when she walks, dances when she eats, dances when she climbs the stairs: in other words, the child who sees the world through music, rhythm, and movement. There are many directions I wish to take this class: re-interpret Disney songs, for example, and interpret them in innovative ways. We will dance through colors, shapes, seasons, the forces of nature, and using evocative music to explore many possibilities of movement and dance. There is no prerequisite for this class and no tutus or special shoes are required - just a wonderful natural imagination and love of music.
