We have teamed up, once again, with the York Senior Center to offer another craft series. We invite all interested seniors to join us on Monday afternoons from 1:00 – 2:30 pm at the Senior Center. These classes are designed to be fun, creative, affordable, and to leave you with a finished product that you’ll love. For your convenience, registration for these classes may also be done at the Senior Center . Class sizes may need to be limited, please register early to guarantee your spot.

June 16th

You’ll be amazed at how beautiful these gift boxes are. We’ll take ordinary boxes of all shapes and sizes and turn them into masterpieces. You’ll never have to “wrap” a gift again! In this class we’ll use a combination of mediums and techniques including acrylic paint and 18kt gold spray paint. Be sure to stop by to see the sample! The cost is $10.00 per person and includes all of the supplies. Students are asked to bring some boxes with them – jewelry boxes really work well as do small/medium square boxes.

July 14th

In conjunction with Naked Plates in Dover , NH , we’ll be transforming an ordinary bisque plate into a wonderful piece of pottery. This is a new design for 2008. Using a few tricks of the trade, we’ll paint the design with glaze and the plate will then need to be kiln fired. Your completed project will be ready to use or for gift giving within a week. The cost is $10.00 per person and includes all of your supplies.

Great for upcoming Holiday gift-giving or for yourself. We’ll use glass beads to make earrings and pendants. The beads come in a menagerie of colors and sizes; there’ll be something for everyone. You’ll learn how to put the beads together in an eye pleasing way and how to use some of the jewelry making tools. The cost is $10.00 per person and includes all of the supplies. MEN’S OVER 30 BASKETBALL

Men’s Over 30 Basketball will continue throughout the summer as pick-up games with teams chosen nightly. We are pleased and lucky to be able to offer golf lessons at the Ledges once again this year. This program will begin on Sunday, June 22nd. It is suggested that you bring your mid-irons to the first class (5, 6, 7, and 8 irons). If you do not have clubs, The Ledges have some available for your use.

MOONLIGHT MADNESS GOLF!

Yes! It’s back! We are pleased to be, once again, hosting this fun-filled evening of golf. If you like to play golf and you enjoy trying something new and different, then this is the tournament for you! Flashlights will light the greens, tiki torches will illuminate the tee boxes, glow sticks will help you find the pin and the ball glows; the rest is up to you. We’re honored to join forces with both the York Par 3 Golf Course and Ruby’s Genuine Wood Grille to reinvent this popular event. We will meet at Ruby’s, around 6:30 pm. before tee off for snacks and drink specials. Nine hole tournament play will take place at the Par 3 golf course at 8:00pm. Following the tournament we’ll head back to Ruby’s for prizes and raffles.

ADULT KAYAKING

Our recreational open top kayaks allow us to offer an instructional program incorporating paddling and fitness in an outdoor adventure you are sure to love! Don’t be intimidated if you’ve never kayaked before! Our qualified staff will provide an introduction to kayaking and safety talk the first day of the program that will be all you need to get the benefit of the sport. This program will meet on Monday/Wednesday OR Tuesday/Thursday mornings at the Rice Bridge on Route 1. We will offer two different classes this year. On Monday and Wednesday we will be offering one two-hour advanced class. This class will run from 6:00 am – 8:00 am. The Tuesday/Thursday classes will be 1-hour classes. The first class runs from 6:00 am – 7:00 am and the second class will run from 7:15 am – 8:15 am. Monday/ Wednesday classes are for advanced paddlers. Tuesday/Thursday classes are open to all levels. The program will run for 6 weeks beginning the week of July 7th through August 14th. What better way to start off your day than an early morning kayak paddle? See you there!

“Head-it” in the right direction!

PICK UP SOCCER GAMES

The Parks and Recreation Department will be reserving the Bog Road soccer field on Sunday mornings from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm. This is an informal program that is free and open to both men and women. This program has been extremely successful from its first year, and we expect it to be just as popular this year. There is no registration fee or pre-registration requirement. Simply go to the field and enjoy a couple of hours of informal scrimmaging. The program will start on Sunday, May 18th. Have fun!

We were only two teams last year, but it was a real blast….so get out your bats and gloves and join in the fun. We will be playing at the York High School Softball field Thursday evenings beginning July 10th. The program will consist of 1 game per week for six weeks with no play-offs. Each team will have a maximum of 15 players. All games will be officiated. There will be a mandatory meeting for team captains on the first night of play before the first game begins to go over league rules. Any interested players are welcome to attend as well.

This is your chance! When you drive by Long Sands Beach at any given time of the year, chances are you will catch people catching waves. Now it’s your turn! Learn to surf with the Liquid Dreams surf team. Your instructor will guide you through the fundamentals of surfing. They will cover paddling, wave selection, how to stand and how to ride the waves. Surfing etiquette, ocean awareness, and beach safety are also discussed. Classes will be given on evenings from 5:00 - 6:30 pm in the surfing area at Long Sands Beach . All equipment and supplies will be provided by Liquid Dreams Surf Shop, however, if you own your own board, feel free to bring it to class.

ADULT TENNIS LADDER

Have you ever wanted to play tennis but couldn’t find anyone to play with? Do you always end up playing against the same person, over and over again? Would you like to play against a variety of opponents throughout the summer? Would you like to schedule matches at the convenience of both you and your opponents? The Parks and Recreation Department will be providing the service of organizing an adult tennis ladder. The ladder will run for eight weeks. Players will contact each other to arrange playing times and will be responsible for scheduling their own court time. The High School courts by the track are available for ladder play. The ladder will run from Monday, June 23rd through Friday, August 18th. Participants must be 16 years and older.

“TAI CHI - MEDITATION IN MOTION”

Tai Chi is a martial art form, which provides healthful exercise in a series of slowly controlled postures that mimic the movements of nature. With practice this will help you relax and feel rejuvenated, while reducing stress, increasing energy levels and balancing mind, body and spirit. Rob Munn, Physical Education teacher at York High School is going to head up this evening of volleyball, so get out and play!! The students will be in the classroom with computers learning the photographic workflow. Experience: New owners of digital cameras with little or no photo experience and limited computer skills Equipment: Point and Shoot, compact digital to Digital SLR cameras. FLYFISHING FOR ADULTS

Come enjoy the serenity of the outdoors and experience adventure while learning all you need to know to catch that fish of your dreams. The class will deal with basic fly casting and fly tying techniques. Adults will practice casting techniques throughout the week. We will be building an early American style solid cherry tackle box, perfect for a fly fisherman. This piece is elegant yet functional for all your fly tying and storage needs. Cruise to the Island, located just 7 miles off the Massachusetts coastline, the beautiful island of Martha’s Vineyard is a world apart, offering a vacation ambience unlike any other.
